Wildfires, plane crashes and a Presidential Inauguration - the last few weeks feel like a month's worth of news. And through it all, the cases continue to come out of federal agencies and regulators. Yesterday, Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, US Treasury (FINCEN) announced a $37M civil penalty against Brink's Global Services (BGS) for violating the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). Brink's allowed hundreds of millions of dollars in bulk currency to be transmitted across the southwest border on behalf of high-risk entities. While there are always discussions about how the Bank Secrecy Act can be improved, there is no doubt that it continues to give regulators and law enforcement tools to enforce our nation's money laundering laws.
