No more pennies: In big change, Treasury will stop minting them

"A nickel for your thoughts?" It doesn't quite have the same ring to it as the old adage we have come to love, but soon, it may very well be the appropriate phrase. The U.S. Government announced last week that it will cease production of the penny when the current order of penny "blanks" is exhausted.
For years, investigators and forensic accountants have prided ourselves on tracing "every last penny" because the details matter. The government says that it actually costs more to make a penny than its worth. And while this may be true, the value of the penny is not going away, only your ability to physically transfer that value in single cent denominations. So, nothing will change for the investigators or the accountants-- the details still matter, and every cent still counts.
